1. If you are choosing your wedding presents for your gift registry during the Christmas season, why not put a X-mas tree and decorations on your list. This would give this gift a greater significance as the family heirloom and the beginning of a new tradition.
2. On your wedding day, make sure that your bridesmaids and flower girls wear the same perfume as you so that their individual scents compliment yours, after all, the day is all about you.
3. If you don't think that you won't survive your wedding day without a cigarette, then invest in a cigarette holder so that you make your craving look a lot more glamorous in front of your family, guests and your photographer who would catch it on film. These come in various lengths, but make sure that it isn't so long that you could cause an injury to anyone who is in close proximity to you.
4. If you and your attendants are using your hotel room to get dressed in on the morning of your wedding day, it would be a good idea to ask the hotel's housekeeping to tidy up the room before you and your fiancé return there for your first evening as husband and wife.
5. To avoid getting your wedding gown crushed on you journey to church, enter your wedding car from the opposite side to where you will exit from on your arrival. Make sure you sit in the centre of the seat with your train and veil arranged on the seat near the car door from which you entered and that your father sits on your other side next to your exiting door. Once your father exits the car you can now follow him by sliding across his seat to alight from the car being followed by your train and veil, giving you a much more elegant entrance.
6. Take care of your wedding attendants hunger pains during your wedding photos and prepare an essentials box filled with cheese, pate, crackers, fruit juices and of course some champagne. Make sure you have glasses, wet ones, toothpicks, safety pins and mints on hand. This can be carried in a picnic basket and set up on and portable card table decorated with a couple of white linen table runners, making it more decadent and photo worthy.
7. When choosing locations other than your church and reception venue for your wedding photos, consider places that are relevant to your upbringing and your relationship such as your childhood parks, schools and beaches. Avoiding the usual city landmarks and kitsch backdrops as you will spend all day in traffic trying to access them, when you should be with your guests and face it, these settings have all been seen in every one else's wedding photos.
8. To ensure that your all of the important guests are being photographed, give your photographers a list of their names and designate a friend or relative to help locate them for the wedding photos.
9. Make an old custom new again when you and you partner cut the wedding cake. The groom gives the bride a bite from his slice and the bride gives the groom a bite from her slice. Then the couple should cut and serve a slice of the cake on plates to each ones parents and grandparents before the caterers take it away to the kitchen to be served to the rest of your guests. You should advise your caterers of this before hand of your plans.
10. Find out which special songs were played at the weddings of your parents and then play those songs at your reception and let them relive the emotions of their own weddings.
11. A gracious idea for your reception table centrepieces is to tag them with the name of friends and family members who helped in any small way of making your wedding day special. These could be the mother of the flower girl who brought her to all of her dress fittings, the speakers during the church service, the person who shopped all over town with you to get the right pair of shoes and the friend who helped addressed your wedding invitations. This way the deserving people are thanked for their time and kind efforts by taking an arrangement home with them. Be sure to tell your venue that you will be doing this.
12. Above all, remember that even during the most perfectly planned wedding, something may possibly go wrong and how bad it seems depends on how you handle it. Usually a beautiful smile can camouflage even the worst of situations and these disasters often make for amusing story telling later.
